Hello, I’m Faerl Marie Torres. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration in fiction. Pieces of my short fiction have appeared or are forthcoming in Medical Muse, Centum Press, and The Dr. T.J. Eckleburg Review, and Gargoyle Magazine. In addition to my freelance work, I’m the winner of the Gertrude Stein Award in Fiction (2018), the Hillerman-McGarrity Creative Writing Endowment (2018), and the Dear Lucky Agent Prize (2016). I’m a member of AWP and Pen Parentis and an AWP Writer-to-Writer mentee (2019).
In addition to grant writing, web and multi-media content creation, and scientific and academic writing, I have many years of experience in the biomedical and social behavioral research industry as an IRB analyst for the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. I’m a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and hold ICH-GCP and CITI certifications. I received the UNMHSC Office of Research Staff Merit Award in 2016 and 2017. This expertise and knowledge has given me the opportunity to work on technical and professional projects.
I’ve been a regular contributor in ABQ Real Producers Magazine (an N2 franchise publication), parenting blog ABQ Mom Blog, and East Mountain Living Magazine. I have experience in retail merchandising, literary review publication, real estate writing, and web content copy and design.
I love working with creative teams to bring a project from conception to completion and have seen my words published and recorded for voice over. I feel my greatest work in progress will always be my own creative depths–I never know the extent of my capability until I’m faced with a new challenge or asked to dive in with another amazing team whose fresh perspective draws new facets of creativity from me.
Along with my writing work, I am focused on my husband and daughter. We live in the mountains east of Albuquerque and delight in the serenity of our home. Thank you for considering my work.
